STANCE by SCMP Learn is a first-of-its-kind English storytelling competition for secondary school students.
In a world where opinions shape outcomes, taking a STANCE is a powerful tool for driving change and progress. Here, students are invited to explore, articulate and amplify their perspectives on the issues shaping our world today.
By navigating seven signature themes, participants are challenged to craft compelling written pieces that distil complex global challenges into personal, persuasive stories. The journey culminates in a prestigious Live Grand Finale Showcase, where finalists take the stage to amplify their perspectives before a panel of industry experts and influential storytellers.
More than a competition, STANCE is a platform designed to foster the next generation of informed, articulate and empathetic leaders.
The first year of STANCE met with an exceptional response, drawing nearly 1,000 submissions from across the globe. From this competitive pool, 20 finalists were selected to bring their perspectives to the stage.
The final showcase served as a dynamic platform for public speaking, with students addressing the topics that define their generation. From deeply personal reflections to visionary ideas for the future, every story resonated with the 200-strong audience.
Our distinguished panel of judges — including actress and content creator Grace Chan, stand-up comedian Vivek Mahbubani, Dr Eugene Chan of TVB Pearl’s Straight Talk and storytelling coach Gary Lo — provided the finalists with expert insights that further elevated each performance. The day was a true celebration of perspective, expression, and the enduring power of young voices.
